For the Week Beginning Sunday, March 8, 2026
Day 1: What Are You Building On?
Reading: Matthew 7:24-27; Mark 13:1-2
The disciples marveled at the temple's magnificent stones, but Jesus predicted its complete destruction. Within forty years, not one stone remained upon another. What looks permanent today can crumble tomorrow. We naturally attach our security to visible structures—careers, institutions, relationships, financial stability. But Jesus lovingly detaches our confidence from temporary things before they collapse, so our faith doesn't fall with them.
Take inventory today: What have you been treating as ultimate besides Christ? Where have you placed your security? The structures of this world will shake, but Christ remains unshakable. Build your life on the Rock that cannot be moved, and when storms come, you will stand firm.
Day 2: Birth Pains, Not Death Throes
Reading: Romans 8:18-25; Mark 13:3-8
Jesus reframes chaos with a powerful image: birth pains. Wars, earthquakes, and turmoil are not signs that God has lost control—they signal something new is coming. Just as a mother endures labor knowing new life awaits, we endure present sufferings knowing God is bringing His purposes to completion. The pain is real, but purposeful.
What season of difficulty are you walking through right now? A health crisis? Relational strain? Financial pressure? These trials are not wasted. God often uses the seasons that shake us most to grow us most. Don't interpret turbulence as abandonment. History isn't spiraling—it's laboring toward God's glorious conclusion. Hold on. Something beautiful is being born through your pain.
Day 3: Anchored by the Spirit
Reading: John 14:15-27; Mark 13:9-11
Jesus promises His disciples will face councils, governors, and persecution. But He also promises they won't face these moments alone: "It is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit." You don't need eloquence or perfect answers—you need presence. God's Spirit dwells within you, providing words, courage, and endurance exactly when needed.
Stop rehearsing worst-case scenarios in your mind. Jesus specifically says, "Do not be anxious beforehand." Your strength isn't your preparation or cleverness; it's the Spirit of God within you. When the moment comes and you feel weak, remember: God never calls His people to stand alone. The same Spirit who empowered the early church empowers you today. Trust His presence more than your performance.
Day 4: Faithful Through Friction
Reading: 2 Timothy 3:10-17; Mark 13:9-13
Jesus doesn't promise that faithful living leads to cultural favor. He promises the opposite: friction, opposition, even hatred "for my name's sake." Faithfulness to Christ may cost you reputation, comfort, or relationships. This isn't failure—it's allegiance. Disapproval doesn't always mean you're doing something wrong; sometimes it means you're doing something right.
The Christian life isn't measured by dramatic heroism but by quiet, steady endurance. It's continuing to trust Christ when life is stable and when life is shaking. It's believing when culture shifts, obeying when mocked, witnessing when opposed, trusting when uncertain. Settle this question now: Is Jesus worth relational tension? Is He worth the cost? True faith doesn't sprint toward a date—it endures toward a Savior.
Day 5: The Unshakable Kingdom
Reading: Hebrews 12:25-29; Revelation 21:1-7
"Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens... so that what cannot be shaken may remain" (Hebrews 12:26-27). Everything shakable will eventually be shaken—nations, institutions, even the physical creation itself. But there remains a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and you belong to it through Christ.
Jesus predicted the temple's fall, endured the cross, rose from the grave, and now reigns at the Father's right hand. He is not shaken. Your hope cannot rest in buildings, nations, or cultural stability. It must rest in Christ alone. When everything around you feels unstable, anchor yourself to the One who never changes. He told us what would shake because He Himself will never be shaken. Stand firm in Him, and when everything else falls, you will remain standing—not because you are strong, but because He is faithful.
